If you sometimes forget to brush your teeth each morning and night or you do not floss, plaque and bacteria can build up in your mouth. In time, hardened tartar and can increase your chances of suffering from gum disease and cavities.

If you notice that you have a tooth that is sensitive, has some discomfort or has had a  change in texture you need to have it examined by our dentist, Dr. Joseph Conard. With early detection, they might be able to treat a minor case of tooth decay by placing a simple dental filling.

This involves the dentist numbing the tooth before carefully removing the compromised tooth enamel. While doing this, they will also prepare the tooth enamel surface for the filling. The material that they recommends may be based on the where the tooth appears when you smile.  An amalgam filling is made from a special blend of dental metals. It has the durability to handle the tough work of chewing and grinding your food. Composite dental fillings tend to be the preferred option for treating a cavity on a tooth that will appear when you smile. It is a special type of dental grade resin that can be shaded to resemble the color and tone of natural tooth enamel. Once the dental filling material has been prepared and applied Dr. Joseph Conard will use an ultraviolet light to harden it. This also ensures a strong bond with the surrounding tooth enamel.
