How to Keep Your Smile for a Lifetime

Posted .

Your teeth do so much for you and your smile; they allow you to eat with ease, brighten and beautify your smile, and help you to speak and articulate properly. So obviously, you’d like to keep your teeth for life. But how do you do that? What should you be doing now to ensure the health of your smile for years to come? Dr. Joseph Conard and our team are thrilled to give you some advice and tips for helping your smile last for a lifetime.

Dental Hygiene
Dental hygiene is incredibly important for the health of your smile. We advise that you brush your teeth twice a day for two minutes and that you floss every day. You may also want to consider the use of mouthwash.

Use the Proper Tools
A great thing to look for when choosing dental hygiene tools is the ADA Seal of Acceptance. This seal indicates that the product has been tested and proven effective. Always choose a soft-bristled toothbrush. We may recommend the use of an electric toothbrush for more thorough, effective brushing.

Eating Habits
You probably know that what you eat can affect your smile, but do you know what you should and shouldn’t eat? Eat healthy foods that don’t stick to the teeth. Fish, beans, nuts, and seeds are sources of protein that are good for your teeth. Avoid sugary foods like candy, cookies, cakes, breads, and bananas, as the sugars can be converted into cavity-causing acids in the oral cavity.
