Tips to Oral Surgery Recover

Posted .

There are many reasons oral surgery may be necessary to achieve positive oral health. Luckily, there are also different tips you can apply to your recovery process to make the healing period easier on you. Our team here at Joseph Conard, DDS is happy to give you those tips and information, so you can have a successful recovery. These tips include:

-Rest: Rest after any major surgery is essential to your recovery. Give yourself a relaxing break and sufficient time to recover. When you lie down, please make sure you keep your head propped up with pillows at an angle to reduce swelling and bleeding that may occur.

-Ice: Ice is an effective way to reduce swelling in your affected area. It’s best to treat with an ice pack for about 15 minutes unless told otherwise by your doctor.

-Foods: Once you are ready to eat again, stick to some soft foods or a liquid-based diet and drink plenty of water. Foods like yogurts, soups, smoothies, and mashed potatoes are soft and excellent choices. Harder foods may cause pain and irritation for a while after surgery, which is why we recommend a softer diet.

-Medications: If medications are prescribed to you, make sure you take them at the prescribed times to help you with your healing process.
